Assassin's Creed Identity (ACI) is an action RPG game for mobile devices (smartphones such as iPhone, as well as tablets) set in the Italian Renaissance era of the Assassin's Creed universe. The game lets you play as an Assassin that you create, develop and customize. The game app costs money to buy to initially download and play, and does have in-app purchases. As of January 25, 2018, the list price in the US Apple App Store is $3.99 for version 2.8.6. However, this is quoted as being 80% off when this version was introduced on August 28, 2017, implying an earlier price of $19.99.

Per its Wikipedia entry, Assassin's Creed Identity was released worldwide by Ubisoft/Blue Byte for iOS on February 25, 2016 and for Android on May 18, 2016. It was soft-launched in 2014 as a free-to-play game in Australia and New Zealand.

Details[edit | edit source]

Gameplay is controlled by dual virtual stick controls as well as tap-to-move/act. There is an option for linking to a game controller. Gameplay occurs in open sandbox levels with 3D rendering using the Unity game engine (Wikipedia link). Individual missions are designed to be relatively short and playable on the go.

The player can choose between 3 classes of assassin with the initial purchase of the game, plus 1 class unlocked by in-app purchase, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Each assassin can have a primary class and a secondary class; see the Class Strategies page for information/ideas on how to make use of dual-class assassins. The player will be able to train and use a cell of up to 6 assassins.

The player will first unravel the mystery of "A Murder of Crows", the first set of 10 Campaign Missions (spoiler alert). Each of the missions will also unlock abilities available to all classes of Assassins. A second set of 4 campaign missions, "Forlì - A Crimson Sunset", is available but must be unlocked via in-app purchase.

Completing the "A Murder of Crows" campaign will unlock Heroic Ranks. This allows the player to play up to 13 types of randomly-generated Contract Missions (4 types are initially unlocked) and allows them to play in new daylight/weather conditions at the various locations in the game. Assassins will have to kill, fight, or evade various enemies (Guards) in the course of accomplishing the mission. For tips on openly fighting enemies as opposed to assassinating them, see the new Combat page. Mission rewards consist of XP (experience points), the two types of in-game currency (Coins and Hero Tokens), and Items which strengthen the assassin's abilities and alter his appearance. Additional Coins or Forge Blueprints can be looted from Treasure Chests found during Contract missions. The player can also level up to add various Skills to improve the assassin's capabilities. In addition to mission rewards, the player is also rewarded for various Achievements (spoiler alert) accomplished during repeated gameplay. Players also can participate in the Daily Quest or in Special Events for rewards and prizes.

Items can also be changed into new Items in the Forge, or sold off for Coins. The Shop offers Items and Boosts to assist the player, as well as in-app purchases of in-game currency and special Item Bundles. The Shop also offers Mystery Boxes for purchase with Coins or for free by watching video advertisements.

The player will learn the history of monuments, characters or events by reading the Codex (spoiler alert). Codex Scrolls are picked up during missions, either on the map or as rewards; or as part of Achievement rewards.

The game does have a few social networking features. The player may use the assassins of other players as Hirelings to assist in the completion of missions. Players can earn additional Coin rewards if the assassins of in-game Friends are used on missions, or if the player's own assassins are used as Hirelings.
